On the 2nd day of March, 2007, as a result of
police surveillance, a vehicle was stopped in the 3700 Block of Joyce
Avenue, four people were arrested. Seized was 2oz of cocaine and a
large amount of Canadian Currency. As a result of this, Jessica Batten
of Powell River was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine for
the Purpose of Trafficking and Possess Marijuana. A male, Iris Gendron,
was also arrested for Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of
Trafficking and Possess cocaine. Court appearance for these two
individuals will be April 18th, 2007. Also arrested in the vehicle was
Matthew Christen Ladret. He has been charged with Possession of Cocaine
for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possess Cocaine and Possess Marijuana. Ladret
has consented to be held in custody until March 21st, 2007 when he will
make his next appearance in court.
As a result of follow up investigation, another male, Luke Marshman was
arrested at his residence in the 5400 block of Manson Avenue for breach
of his conditional sentence order. The original Conditional Sentence
Order was for two counts of Possession for the Purpose of trafficking,
Trafficking in a controlled substance, Possess cocaine, and breach of
recognizance x four. The conditions that Marshman breached were not to
have contact with Matthew Ladret, no possess weapons, and not to possess
a cell phone. As a result of the search of Marshman, new charges of
possess heroin are pending. Marshman will be held in custody until
Wednesday when he appears before a Judge.
On the 28th day of February, 2007, as a result of police surveillance,
Belinda Williams was arrested for Possession of cocaine and Lorazepam
for the Purpose of trafficking. She was found in possession of
approximately 1 oz of crack cocaine and approximately 50 Lorazepam
tablets. Williams was released on a Recognizance with
conditions. Conditions include a 7pm to 7am curfew, not to possess cell
phone or pager, and a few no contacts with persons known to be involved
in the drug trafficking trade.
Powell River Continues to step up Impaired Driving Enforcement. Four
Powell River drivers were taken off the road this past
weekend. Criminal Code charges are being forwarded against two of these
individuals, a 20 year old and a 53 year old. The other two individuals
had their drivers licenses suspended for twenty four hours.
Vehicles in the Townsite and Cranberry areas are still the subject of
vandalism. A few vehicles have been gone through and change
taken. More vehicles had their windows shattered. On Glacier Street and
Duncan Street, vehicles had their windows broken as well.

On 2007-1180 - March 10, 2007 - Just before 9:00
p.m. Powell River RCMP responded to a call for assistance at the Movie
Gallery located at 4296 Joyce Avenue. A female had entered the store and
demanded money from the clerk. No one was injured. The female suspect
fled the scene with a $100 bill. She is described as Caucasian with
blonde hair, in her late 40's, small build, 5 feet tall, 100 pounds.

2006-6051 **The name of Accused may be published as he has been
charged.** On March 7, 2007, Powell River RCMPolice Drug Section
conducted police surveillance. As a result, 39 year old Timothy John
Shepherd was arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin for the
Purpose of Trafficking. He appeared in court the following day and was
released on a Recognizance with several strict conditions.

citizens of Powell River, effective immediately, all requests for
Special Occasions Licenses must be made in person with proper
identification at least 2 weeks prior to the scheduled event.

from vehicles, vandalism, as well as residential break and enters. If

UPDATE - 2007-1180 - On March 14, 2007 following
a police investigation into 3 separate incidents of shoplifting at the
Town Centre Mall, Powell River RCMPolice arrested 38 year old Colleen
Catherine RUTLEDGE for Theft. The investigation led police to identify
RUTLEDGE as the suspect in the robbery which took place at the Movie
Gallery on March 10, 2007. RUTLEDGE has been charged with 3 counts of
Theft and a charge of Robbery has also been recommended.
2007-1332 - March 20, 2007 - A warning to the public to be aware of
possible internet lottery scams. A Powell River resident has contacted
the RCMP to report she had received suspicious e-mail messages advising
her she has won 552,000 pounds sterling from the UK National Lottery.
She was then asked to send her personal information and copies of her
identification along with a cheque for 5,000 pounds to a courier company
in order to claim her 'prize'. She was advised not to tell anyone about
her winnings. Powell River RCMP would like to remind people to protect
their personal information. Usually when a lottery is won, the winner
does not have to pay a fee to claim the prize.
2007-1358 - On March 21, 2007 at 11:50 a.m.
Powell River RCMP responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two
vehicles on Joyce Avenue at Toba Street. A 22 year old female passenger
was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
2007-1053/ 2007-1436 - On March 26, 2007 at 4:10 p.m. Powell River
RCMPolice responded to a disturbance outside 7-Eleven, 4441 Joyce
Avenue. Robert James COOK, 28 years old, was arrested and charged with
assault and uttering threats. Police had been looking for COOK in
connection with an assault which took place on March 3, 2007. He was
also arrested and charged for the March 3 incident. COOK appeared in
Provincial Court on March 28 and was released on bail with several
conditions. COOK is scheduled to appear in court again on April 18,
2007.
2007-1457K - On March 28, 2007 at 12:58 p.m. Powell River RCMPolice
responded to a domestic disturbance. Soren LAWSON, 27 years old, was
arrested and charged with assault against his common-law girlfriend. He
appeared in court and was released on a recognizance of bail with
conditions. LAWSON is scheduled to appear in court again on April 11,
2007.
2007-1478 - During the evening of March 29, 2007 at Powell River RCMP
Drug Section stopped a vehicle departing from a residence known to
police. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested. Police seized
a quantity of cocaine. Charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances
Act have been recommended against two adult males.
